Job Description:
Budapest British International School is seeking a dedicated and detail-oriented Science Lab Technician to join our Educational Team. The successful candidate will support our dynamic Science Department by ensuring that our laboratories are equipped, safe, and prepared for lessons and experiments.
Core Tasks:- To prepare and maintain the technical and additional equipment needed for lessons in the science labs
- To provide help and assist in the preparation of experiments students will undertake in lessons
- Safe storage and removal of chemical and biological equipment that has been used in a Lab - including dissected animal products, poisonous chemicals and materials and dangerous waste
- Understanding of how to make up solutions as requested at different strengths (Molar quantities - such as 0.1, 0.2, 0,5 and 1M) and the organisation and storage of these to ensure longer shelf life, as well as storage upkeep
- How to effectively use and maintain a fume cupboard, and knowledge of what should be used in it and when
- To implement the school's health and safety policies and keep this knowledge up-to-date according to any changes in policy
- To ensure that laboratories and preparation rooms meet health and safety requirements
- Understanding and formal training related to COSHH and Hungarian Chemical Regulations
- To prepare, maintain, store safely and keep an inventory of the science equipment used for experiments and other practical work
- Have knowledge of and learn about technical Science equipment and how to use it (e.g. Autoclaves, Multimeters, Wave generators, PH Probe calibration...)
- To ensure the general maintenance of laboratories including the maintenance of all equipment and the notification of necessary repairs is managed efficiently
- To participate in staff / department meetings when required
Additional help is needed on an occasional basis in the following area:
- Be willing to learn and operate the lighting and sound boards in the PA space, and help to set up for the weekly assembly
