IT Business Analyst (Data Migration project)

Our partner is a well-known brand in the aviation industry. The team in Budapest – which was founded 2 years ago - is rapidly growing, hence we are seeking our next colleague to join as IT Business Analyst.
You will be responsible for identifying and analysing source data, mapping it into a to be defined data model, and ensuring alignment with organisational business rules. This role involves both technical expertise—reverse-engineering logic within data repositories—and strong communication skills to gather and validate requirements with business stakeholders.
Scope of the job:

  1. Data Source Discovery & Analysis
    • Identify relevant data sources needed for the project.
    • Perform exploratory data analysis to understand structure, content, and data quality in existing systems.
    • Document metadata, data dictionaries, and data flow diagrams.
  2. Data Modelling
    • Create a conceptual, logical data model and have knowledge of physical data models
    • Map source system data to the target conceptual and logical data model.
  3. Reverse-Engineering Business Rules
    • Investigate existing systems, stored procedures, or application logic to uncover implicit business rules.
    • Analyse data patterns, anomalies, and usage contexts to deduce business logic embedded in systems.
    • Document and validate discovered rules for business.
  4. Requirement Gathering & Stakeholder Engagement
    • Conduct interviews and workshops with business users, subject-matter experts, and other stakeholders to capture business requirements.
    • Translate high-level business needs into actionable data requirements.
    • Present findings and recommendations in clear, concise formats for both technical and non-technical stakeholders and document this properly.
  5. Business Rule Definition & Validation
    • Work closely with the business to define or refine business rules for data transformation, quality checks, and reporting.
    • Propose improvements or enhancements to existing processes based on discovered rules and data insights.
    • Validate business rules through prototypes, pilot projects, or data profiling exercises.
  6. Documentation & Communication
    • Maintain comprehensive documentation, including source-to-target mappings, data lineage, business rule definitions, and data flow diagrams.
    • Create user stories, functional specifications, or other artifacts as part of an agile development cycle.
    • Report project status, findings, and concerns regularly to stakeholders and management.
  7. Collaboration & Continuous Improvement
    • Collaborate with Data Engineers, Database Architects, Quality Assurance, and other IT teams to ensure seamless data integration and transformation.
    • Identify data quality issues or risks and suggest mitigation strategies.
    • Adapt to the move to cloud (Google) and make use of the latest technologies within GCP

You are the ideal candidate if you have:

  • Fluency in English language both spoken & written.
  • Excellent skills in data modelling, experience with data vault
  • Advanced SQL and data querying knowledge
  • Experience in data profiling, metadata management, and data quality assessment.
  • Business Acumen: Ability to interpret and translate business needs into technical requirements.
  • Analytical Skills: Strong problem-solving skills to identify, investigate, and document complex business rules and data relationships.
  • Communication Skills: Excellent written and verbal communication for workshops, stakeholder interviews, and documentation.
  • Soft Skills: Adaptability, collaboration, critical thinking, and attention to detail.
  • Experience working in an Agile environment.
